Zigbee Wifi sensor networks

By searching for an low cost device to build up a wireless sensor and actor infrastructure for the next generation Exploration System, to provide more freedom and handiness, I found the Zigbee technique to fit well on my requirements. Even Today the cheapest module I found was around 15€ while 2006 is predicated as the Zigbee year. The Zigbee system is intended to provide a wireless sensing acting network for industrial and building automation needs. If the Zigbee will establish in this market its most likely, that the price for Zigbee modules will further decrease.

ZigBee protocols are intended for use in embedded applications requiring low data rates and low power consumption. ZigBee’s current focus is to define a general-purpose, inexpensive, self-organizing, mesh network that can be used for industrial control, embedded sensing, medical data collection, smoke and intruder warning, building automation, home automation, etc. The resulting network will use very small amounts of power so individual devices might run for a year or two using the originally installed battery.
